He and Lt. JG John D. Robertson and Henry Hensen were killed on May 23, 1944 on a training mission out of NAS Alameda. Any information about any of these brave men would be deeply appreciated. He flew in one of three planes invited to attend the ceremonies. His pilot was a young pilot named Grady Owens. Dad was stationed with Cdr. Whitaker at Chincoteague and remembers flying 'night and day' as the pilots were learning to become dive bombers.
